Check your VACCINATIONS!!! Don't forget to arrange your immunizations well in advance. Best is to get your information through your doctor or (even better) through a specialized travel clinic. They can inform you which immunizations and/or medications you will need.
It's best to avoid drinking of public water. You can buy bottled water everywhere.
Always take something with you against diarrhoea and a first aid kit. In specialized travel stores you can buy medi-bags for the tropics.
Check your Passport. It must be valid. As a tourist you mostly don't need a visa for Peru. Better check in your country if you need a visa and how long you can stay if you don't need a visa. When you leave Peru, all foreigners need to pay a "departure tax". The tax varies between countries and can change without notice. After you arrive in Peru make sure you will fill out a form for tax exemption so you don't have to pay the expensive fare-rate that the Peruvian citizens has to pay!!!
There are good connections by plane from North America and Europe (direct flights from London, Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt, Rome and from most of the Central and South American countries). Through internet you can get information about the flights and the fares. To get to Iquitos, you will always first fly to Lima, Peru. Most of the time you will have to stay there for 1 or 2 nights. Then you will fly with Aero Condor, LANPeru or Tansperu to Iquitos. The flight from Lima to Iquitos will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes and is already a beautiful acquaintance with the rainforest from the Amazon area. Just look outside of your window when you are halfway and you will know what we mean when you see an ocean of green!!
The currency is the Nuevo Sol.
Time difference is, of course, depending from which country you come (time difference from GMT is 5 hours behind). |
